Duka Ledger is provided by Darius Momanyi ("we", "our") as a free, offline-first tool to help small businesses and individuals record customer credit, debts, and payments.

1. Your data, your device. All records you create — customers, transactions, settings — are stored only in your device's local storage (IndexedDB). We do not run a server for this app and never receive, store, or transmit your business data.

2. Your responsibility. You are solely responsible for the accuracy of the records you enter and for backing up your data regularly using the Export Backup feature. We are not liable for any loss of data, financial disagreements, or business decisions made using this app.

3. No warranty. Duka Ledger is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. We do not guarantee the app will be error-free or uninterrupted.

4. Acceptable use. You agree not to use this app for any unlawful purpose and to comply with any local laws regarding record-keeping, debt collection, and consumer protection that apply to your business.

5. Changes. We may update these terms as the app evolves. Continued use of the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Privacy Policy

Duka Ledger is built to be offline-first and local-only by default. This policy explains exactly what that means, and discloses the two narrow exceptions below.

1. No server for your business data. Duka Ledger has no backend server for your books. Customer names, phone numbers, debts, payments, and business settings are stored exclusively in your device's local browser storage (IndexedDB). None of this is uploaded anywhere by this app, unless you explicitly turn on Google Drive backup (see #4).

2. Contacts access. If you use "Import from Contacts," your device's contact picker is used only to fill in a name and phone number you choose. The app never reads your full contact list and never stores contacts you don't explicitly import.

3. Notifications. If you enable push notifications, your browser handles this permission directly. Notifications are generated entirely on your device.

4. Optional Google Drive backup. If you choose to connect Google Drive in Settings, Duka Ledger sends a full backup of your customers, transactions, and settings to a single file in your own Google Drive, using Google's sign-in. This only happens if you tap "Connect Google Drive," and only your backup file is accessed — Duka Ledger cannot see or touch anything else in your Drive. You can disconnect at any time in Settings; your local data and the app's core features are unaffected either way. Local export/import (below) always works fully offline with no Google account needed.

5. Local export/import. When you export a backup, a JSON file is created and saved directly to your device through your browser's normal download mechanism. We never see or receive a copy of this file.

6. Anonymous usage count. To show a rough Downloads and Active Users count on the About page, this app generates a random ID for your device (not linked to your name, phone, or business data) and, when you're online, sends that ID and a timestamp to a small counting service. No customer or business data is included. This is the only "tracking" in this app, and it exists purely to count devices — not to identify or profile anyone.

7. No advertising or third-party trackers. We do not use advertising SDKs or third-party analytics/tracking scripts. Google's sign-in and Drive APIs are used only if you explicitly connect Google Drive backup, and are governed by Google's own privacy policy for that connection.

8. Deleting your data. Clearing your browser or app storage, or uninstalling the app, permanently deletes all local records. Export a backup or connect Google Drive first if you want to keep them.

What's New

How to Use Duka Ledger

1. Add your first customer. Tap the + button on Home, or "Customers → + Add." Enter their name and phone number — phone lets you send receipts straight to WhatsApp later. On supported phones you can also tap "Import from Contacts" to pull the name and number in automatically.

2. Record a debt. Tap + → Record Debt, choose the customer, enter the amount and what it was for (e.g. "Cement and sand"), then save. Their balance updates immediately.

3. Record a payment. Tap + → Record Payment, choose the customer, enter the amount, and tick how they paid — Cash, Till, Pochi, Send Money, or Paybill. If it's an M-Pesa method, you can note the name that showed on the confirmation, so you can double-check the payment landed correctly later.

4. Check a customer's balance. Open Customers, tap their name, and you'll see their full balance, total borrowed, total paid, and every transaction in order with running balances.

5. Share a receipt. From a customer's profile, tap Statement. You can print it, save it as an image, or tap "Share via WhatsApp" to send it straight to their number — editable if you want to send it to someone else instead.

6. Set up how customers pay you. In Settings → Payment Methods, tick Till, Pochi, Send Money, and/or Paybill and fill in your numbers. These automatically appear on every receipt so customers always know how to pay you back.

7. Check the Reports tab. See total debt issued, payments received, outstanding balances, and your top debtors — filterable by today, this week, this month, or a custom range.

8. Back up your data. In Settings → Backup & Restore, tap "Export Backup" regularly. This saves a file with every customer and transaction — keep a copy somewhere safe. If you ever need to restore it, use "Choose Backup File to Restore."

9. Lock the app. In Settings → Security, set a PIN so no one else can open Duka Ledger. If your phone supports it, you can also turn on fingerprint/face unlock as a shortcut.

10. Everything works offline. Duka Ledger needs no internet connection for daily use — customers, debts, payments, receipts, and reports all work in airplane mode. You only need internet to share via WhatsApp or check for app updates.
